Cabo Blanco Biological Reserve
This reserve is located on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. It is the longest protected natural area in Costa Rica. The reserve was founded in 1963 by Swedish nature lover Olof Wessberg, who recognized the importance of protecting and restoring the last tracts of tropical rainforest on the Nicoya Peninsula. It is thanks to this that the countless rivers that feed the 1174 ha. large reserve never run dry, unlike the rest of this drought-stricken region. The reserve is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. From the entrance of the park, a 5 km long path leads over the densely wooded hills to Playa Cabo Blanco, opposite Isla Cabo Blanco. The various trees are named with name plates. White-tailed deer, gray squirrels and various monkey species live there. Watch out for grass snakes!
